- United Kingdom: 9 December 2026 for Royal Mail's Letters to Santa.

What Should Children Write in Their Letter to Santa?
Writing to Father Christmas is about much more than creating a Christmas wish list.
Children could include:
- Their name and age.
- Something they have enjoyed doing this year.
- A kind thing they have done for somebody else.
- A few Christmas wishes.
- A question about Santa, the elves or the reindeer.
- A drawing or special Christmas message.
There's no need to write a perfect letter. A few heartfelt sentences can be just as magical as a whole page.
Parents and grandparents can help younger children write their messages, while older children might enjoy writing independently.
For inspiration, see our guide to writing a letter to Santa.
Will Santa Send a Reply?
That depends on which postal service you use.
Some Christmas postal schemes offer free replies, others operate special gift-wish programmes, and some simply provide a wonderful way to send Christmas greetings.
Before posting, check whether the service offers replies, whether a return address is required and whether there is a deadline.
For families who would prefer to arrange a special personalised letter themselves, Santa Letter Direct's personalised letters from Father Christmas offer a separate, paid Christmas experience.
These can include details chosen by the family to help make the letter feel as though Father Christmas knows the child personally.
Can You Get a Free Letter From Santa?
Yes! There are several ways families can enjoy a free letter from Father Christmas.
Some national postal schemes offer a chance of receiving a reply, although postage may still be required and replies are not always guaranteed.
